Should we set PowerShell v2 as a minimum requirement for PowerGUI?

I have just put up a short poll asking PowerGUI users about when they will be moving to PowerShell v2 as a standard in their environment.
I am trying to plan out next year, and we can do lots of cool stuff if users have PowerShell v2, so we need to get some feedback before any decision is made.
Please take the poll on the right, and feel free to post any comments/suggestions/rants in this thread.

Hi Darin, My suggestion would be to wait at least 90 days after Microsoft puts PowerShell v2 on Windows Update. That makes it easily accessible to the vast majority of people and gives them an easy way to deploy it across their environment.
In the short term, it would certainly be nice to have some v2-dependent features that just light up if v2 is installed - kind of like module support.

I agree with seaJhawk. Definitely wait until PS V2 is available from Windows Update. I also think that in the mean time having v2 features that enable if v2 is installed would be a good starting point.
Thank you for such a wonderful tool and keep up the good work!

Assuming you leave PowerGUI V.Current available for folks who still use PowerShell v.1, I say the next release should be a #requires -Version 2.0 release :)

Unfortunately it's an Optional update so it doesn't appear in things like WSUS by default. This means that Admins are going to have to intentionally seek it out. Many won't take the time to do it. (I've only done it for PowerShell - I wonder what other Optional updates I'm missing out on...)
I would still say that you should not take a hard dependency on v2 for a while yet, but it would sure be nice to have enhanced features appear in PowerGUI when v2 is present if it doesn't require too much work.
Merry Christmas!

I think requiring v2 is fair. It's available for WSUS. (I pushed it last month.) It has backward compatiblity that seems pretty strong. Plus the product is evolving pretty significantly. If you don't move to using it then PowerGUI will go obsolete before too long.
I would leave the last PSv1 version of PowerGUI available for download for quite a while though.

Thanks for the comments and thanks to those that voted in the mini poll - I never makes these kinds of decisions without trying to think through all the complications for the PowerGUI users.
I intend to make Posh v2 a requirement for PowerGUI v2+ and I agree Stef - we will leave the 1.9.6 version available for those that can't/won't upgrade.
We will do our best to be as backwardly compatible as possible, but posh v2 has a lot of really cool stuff - and we are really excited to push the boundaries.
The PowerGUI product & dev teams read these forums every day, and believe the secret to making a really great product is user input - so keep your comments/complaints/rants/wish-lists coming.
